Recommended feeds for PCB tools
Posted on March 16, 2018.
Addressing the questions about what feeds to use when milling the boards, we decided to throw together a little table with feed recommendations for the tools Cirqoid uses to mill and drill PCB laminate. These are the values that worked well for us. Happy milling!
Drills
Drill bits are only used to drill holes. They are supplied with green stop rings.
Drill diameter | Feed |
0.2-0.3mm | 250 mm/min |
0.4-4.0mm | 300 mm/min |
4.0-5.0mm | 200 mm/min |
15º milling end mills
These end mills are used for isolation milling.
End mill diameter | Feed XY | Feed Z | Feed arcs |
0.1mm | 75 mm/min | 50 mm/min | 30% |
0.13mm | 150 mm/min | 75 mm/min | 30% |
0.18mm | 400 mm/min | 150 mm/min | 30% |
0.254mm | 1000 mm/min | 300 mm/min | 30% |
90º V-tools
90º V tools are also used for isolation milling. They come with orange stop rings.
End mill diameter | Feed XY | Feed Z | Feed arcs |
0.10-0.15mm | 300 mm/min | 100 mm/min | 30% |
0.2-0.5mm | 800 mm/min | 300 mm/min | 30% |
Rub out end mills
As the name suggests, these end mills are used for rub out (removing large areas of copper). Their stop rings are purple.
End mill diameter | Feed XY | Feed Z | Feed arcs |
0.4mm | 800 mm/min | 250 mm/min | 30% |
0.8-2.0mm | 1000 mm/min | 300 mm/min | 30% |
Contour end mills
And these end mills separate the board from the laminate panel. They have yellow stop rings.
End mill diameter | Feed XY | Feed Z | Feed arcs |
1.0-2.0mm | 300 mm/min | 100 mm/min | 50% |
